Mental Health First Aid Youth (MHFAider)

This course enables individuals to gain the essential knowledge, skills and awareness to identify the signs of young people who may be experiencing poor mental health - give them reassurance to approach those suffering and provide them with the most appropriate support. Completing MHFAY will ensure individuals can carry out their role effectively and confidentially.

By the end of this course, the learner will understand:

• What is meant by mental health issues in young people
• The different factors that affect the wellbeing of young people and their mental health
• How to offer comfort and support to a young person in distress
• How to listen to a young person facing difficulty and be able to conversate in a non-judgemental way
• How to assist a young person into the process of receiving further help with their mental health illness, including engaging with parents or carers, using self help website etc
• The importance of supporting a young person with long-term mental illness and how to encourage them to thrive for their future
• The importance of own self-care within the role

After completing this course, along with a certificate of attendance as a Youth MHFAider, individuals will also receive a Youth MHFAider manual, giving them access to the key information they have learnt whenever they may need it. We will also provide a workbook with essential advice on how individuals can support their own mental health and wellbeing
