Level 3 Paediatric First Aid at Work
This course enables individuals to attain the knowledge and practical competencies required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.
The course is mapped to the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, the EYFS Framework and the standards set out by RQF. The course includes the latest evidence-based resuscitation techniques as per Resus Council UK guidelines. Wider mapping includes the First Aid Award Body Forum (FAAOF) Standards, Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework, British Standard for Workplace First Aid Kits (BS 8599-1:2019) and HSE guidance.
By the end of the course the learner will:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and child who are unresponsive
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and child who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and child with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is suffering from shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with bites, stings and minor injuries
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting
the eyes, ears and nose - Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical
condition or sudden illness - Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing
extremes of body temperature - Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis
Course duration: 12 hours / 2 days
