Steps & Ladders

This course enables individuals to understand different types of ladders, their appropriate uses and the UK regulations and safety requirements for ladder user.  

This course will help to strengthen the necessary skills and knowledge needed to use ladders and step ladders safely. Delegates will learn how to correctly assess and determine when it is appropriate to use a ladder or step ladder, how to do so safely and how to visually inspect ladders and step ladders for damage.

Delegates will also be taught what they need to know about the law, regulations and standards relating to the use of ladders and stepladders, hazards in the use of ladders and stepladders, Storage and handling of ladders and stepladders.

The content of the qualification meets the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

By the end of this course, the learner will understand:

• The law and standards relating to ladders and stepladders
• The hazards associated with the use of step ladders
• How to inspect, store and safely transport ladders and stepladders
• Emergency procedures when using ladders and stepladders
• The parts of ladders and stepladders
• How to select and safely use ladders and stepladders
