Level 2 Health and Safety
This course enables individuals who work within an early years setting to understand health and safety.
The course is mapped to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework (2021) Section 3 Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements and Risk Management. The course also includes mapping to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006, Fire Safety Order (Regulatory Reform) 2005, Childcare Act 2006 and Safeguarding and Child Protection Standards.
By the end of this course, the learner will understand:
- Own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to health and safety in the work setting
- Risk assessment
- Procedures for responding to accidents, sudden illness and providing basic life support
- Moving and assisting safely
- Reducing the spread of infection
- Medication and healthcare tasks
- Handling hazardous substances
- How to promote fire safety
- How to work safely and securely
- How to manage own mental health and personal wellbeing
